A New Way to Honor Our Loved Ones…
The darkness seems to be closing in on us from a variety of places these days: COVID canceling long standing traditions; grief complicating life; uncertainty and anxiety taking root in our hearts. This time of year we also give thanks and long for our loved ones in a deeper way, whether they live in another state, around the corner or in God’s heavenly house.
To combat the grief and darkness we are experiencing this season we will be lighting up our corner of the world with Love Lights! Each light will help remind us that these loved ones have a place beside us.
You can “purchase” a Love Light in honor or memory of a loved one for a suggested donation of $20. Payment can be made on the GivePlus Mobile app, by mail or drop off. Love Lights will officially go on sale November 15th. An order form will be posted on our website and Facebook page along with in the weekly Eblast. The Love Lights will take the place of purchasing poinsettas this year. The names of those honored and in memory of will be shared in the bulletin at our Christmas Eve services.
On Sunday, December 6th we will gather at 5pm for the Official Lighting of the Love Lights. There will be a brief liturgy, perhaps a song (carols, anyone?) and an official countdown! Everyone is welcome!
Here’s how you can help with this glowing new project:
- Donate new or gently used outdoor lights. If you are donating used lights, please make sure the bulbs are in good working order and would not create a fire hazard. A drop box for lights will be outside the main entrance of the church beginning on November 8th.
- Help hang lights on Saturday, December 5th from 10am-12pm.
- “Purchase” a love light in honor or in memory of a love one.
- Join us on Sunday, December 6th at 5pm for the Lighting Ceremony.
Honoring a loved one with the gift of lights is especially special this year. When their light is a part of a beautiful glowing Christmas display, it becomes a gift to the entire community and a reminder that we do not walk alone.
